Date Ladoo Recipe – Easy, No-Sugar Indian Sweet
Date Ladoo – The Guilt-Free Indian Sweet You'll Make Again and Again
Date Ladoo is a traditional Indian sweet that needs zero refined sugar, zero cooking, and just a handful of wholesome ingredients. Made with soft, naturally sweet dates as the base, these little energy balls are perfect for festivals, gifting, or an everyday healthy treat.
Ingredients
- 250g soft dates (pitted) – Arabian Dates work beautifully here
- ½ cup desiccated coconut (plus extra for rolling)
- ¼ cup mixed nuts – cashews, almonds, or pistachios (roughly chopped)
- 1 tsp cardamom powder (elaichi)
- 1 tbsp ghee (optional, for binding)
Instructions
- Prep the dates: If your dates are firm, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes and pat dry. Remove pits if not already done.
- Blend: Add dates to a food processor and pulse until a sticky dough forms. Do not over-blend — a slightly chunky texture is perfect.
- Mix: Transfer to a bowl. Add desiccated coconut, chopped nuts, cardamom powder, and ghee. Mix well with your hands until everything comes together.
- Shape: Grease your palms lightly with ghee and roll the mixture into small round balls (about the size of a golf ball).
- Coat: Roll each ladoo in desiccated coconut for a beautiful finish.
- Chill: Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set. Serve and enjoy!
Tips & Variations
- Add 1 tbsp cocoa powder for a chocolate twist.
- Roll in crushed pistachios for a festive look.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
